JKR is back. And so is Harry Potter. Also Pokémon!
Today is almost more than a decade since I read the first book of the series, and after 9 years J.K. Rowling decides to show us a little more of what happens next in Mr. Potter's world. The memories of reading the first book still appear as if it happened just yesterday.
So apart from the curious much important anxiety, the book is named 'Harry Potter and The Cursed Child'. As an old ritual, I decided to finish it in one seating. And I did, almost. But just as Harry has now aged, how can anyone defy the laws of time. Age has taken over my body now and I can barely stay awake beyond midnight. However, finishing it in a matter of couple hours is something that still stands true to the tradition.
The book is a script of a play. So there will be many disappointed Pottermaniacs who thought JKR will go into the most intricate details of Potter's life. The plot races through like a movie but also has that sense of excitement which prevailed in the books before. The new way of writing is acceptable to me because I am finally going to be able to get a peak in life after no Voldemort. All in said, I am now looking forward to watching the play and see it light up as a real performance this time instead of a screen in between.
Whilst one rage of my teens is brought back to this life of my mid 20's, another sensation of that time which featured as a cartoon by the name of ' Pokémon' is now creating more than just ripples in the format of a game. These kids, most of them who were probably not even born when the cartoon version gave birth to collector's cards are flocking public areas like parks, hospitals, commercial buildings. All this wild goose chase for that rare Pokémon or to increase the strength of it.
Though this is putting kids out of their four-walled secured "casa", it's equally putting them and others at risk. These kids are forgetting that they also exist as real humans while being hooked onto the virtual reality of the Pokémon world. Over the past few days, certain accidents have been reported and it is sad to say that it's only a matter of time when we'll hear some more of these accidents happen.
Unfortunately, there's only one way to use this madness in the right spirit, by not going so over board that you threaten a life. And I await the day when all these kids and other elderly people catch 'em all but safely and by not disrupting anyone's peace. It's a game after all. Not catching one will not be the cause of your death, but attempting to catch the one in the sea could be the cause of your end. Just saying.
Potterheads, including myself, your madness is justified because after all, even a century later there will always be someone who's waiting for their Hogwarts letter.
